Cell phones or mobile phones are long range, portable devices for personal communication. While maybe mocked in the early 80’s by the cartoon likeness of Inspector Gadget (“Go, Go Gadget Phone!”) today having your telephone in the palm of your hand, while not yet possible, is pretty darn close to being true. While many of us have even given up their land lines in lieu of an entirely digital cellular existence, there are some who warn of impending doom or the in general ‘bad idea’ politics of cellular. I was one of those people; then my girlfriend got us a family plan. Let the chatting begin.
Honestly, cellular was inevitable. With longer work days, more stringent lives, being away from home more often than not, and the toxic obnoxiousness of the answering machine screen, we had to find a way to keep in touch with people we wanted to talk to (and didn’t want to talk to) so cell phones were inevitable. (though today, if it’s an unwanted or unknown number, we’ll just do the straight to voice mail bit! It never ends!) Cell phone development actually dates back to the 1940’s though the first handheld mobile call wasn’t made until 1973. Cell phones used to have bulky bodies that would require constant charging (you could plug it into a car lighter) and were considerably bigger than anyone found efficient. Cell phones now outnumber people in some countries; in America in 2006, 80% of the country had cell phones. That’s a pretty staggering number considering that many of these with cellular are under the age of 18 and that the number is said to increase to 90% by 2010. For your cell phone usage, there are many great accessories including cell phone batteries, prepaid cell phones for people on a budget, and other cell phone accessories. Depending on the type of phone you’ve got and plan you’re under, cell phones include all sorts of interesting things including directories, internet access, cameras, and video recorders. If you’re looking for used cell phones, they are available. But the thing about that is that if you’re getting a cell phone plan you can often get a free cell phone when you sign up. The reviews are in and the experts agree; cell phones have taken over the world. Fear not though, as we all move in lockstep towards a darker tomorrow there will be something that moves us away from this current track and towards a more harmonious existence with our cellular in tow, all the live long day.
