Health is something we all spend our whole lives grappling with. Fortunately for you there are a few simple rules you can follow and things you can do for yourself to maintain an optimum health all your life; adding many more enjoyable years to your life; giving you a renewed outlook on the future and making your overall time on this earth more pleasant.
First of all health is not something you’re born with. It may be something you’re not born with (Polio, MS, Diabetes, AIDS, etc) but even the ‘perfectly healthy baby’ is immediately in danger from the second they leave the womb. From the very first days, you need to take care and make sure your kin are cared for. There are many things out there that can hurt you; every errant germ or virus is just looking for a warm body to host it. Remember Luke Skywalker in The Empire Strikes Back? He killed that Arctic Kangaroo thing just so he could keep warm; it’s the same thing with a virus. Any responsible virus would like to take to your body and ravage it until there’s nothing left. For this reason you need to take care of yourself, not go out in the Arctic wilderness without a warm host. There are many outlets if you’re looking to find out more about good health. Several magazines and television networks have shows and articles in general and specific about good health. Among those magazines include two whose intentions are plain enough; I’m talking of course about Men’s Health and Women’s Health; two penultimate magazines whose advice, recipes, exercise tips, and other information has been helping men and women for years. There are also programs on networks like Discovery Health that have all sorts of programs that travel through the life cycle and tell stories about many different subjects from birth, to adoption, plastic surgery, and ecology; all subjects either having to do with personal health or the health of the world. The World Health Organization is a group headed by the United Nations which sets out to attain the “highest possible levels of health” for all people, everywhere. Governed by 193 member states, the World Health Organization addresses topics of concern for people all over the world, grapples with disease and initiates aid to people all over the world. If you’re looking for health news or you have health questions there are a number of avenues you can pursue. First of all you should see your doctor regularly to talk about any questions you may have. In an emergency you should always visit the emergency room; if you don’t know what’s wrong with you, you shouldn’t let it dawdle on. Like Sally Field says about her bone health, we have “only got this one body, this one life,” we all need to “try and get it right.”
