Whether or not you’ve got some medical condition that necessitates it or whether you’re in some training season that requires you to make weight or whether you need to lose a lot of weight quickly or would like to lost 15 lbs this year (and keep it off) a diet plan is a good idea for pretty much everyone. There are a couple of things you need to do prior to beginning your diet plan but you can begin today and you can begin to see some real results in a matter of weeks.
Diet plans are different from restrictive diets. If there are foods you absolutely can not eat; if you’re lactose intolerant for example or a diabetic and need to keep your blood sugar in check, then there are foods you absolutely can not eat. I don’t know if those of us who are relatively healthy, with average teeth, strong bones, competent immune systems, and functioning organs realize just how lucky we are. We could be spitting up blood or something. So it’s important to gauge your situation. Once you’ve done that and your see there are no pertinent risk factors, then you need to figure out what you can change (along with exercise) to lose weight. Not for nothing; it’s not like you won’t lose weight by adjusting your diet. But if you don’t incorporate exercise there’s a high risk for you to lose the weight, go back to your errant ways, and the weight will come right back. At least with exercise, you can try and maintain your target weight when you’ve back eating Filet Minion and pork rinds. A good first step is to write down everything you eat (and drink) for a week. If you’re going home every night and having three six packs or two pints of Ben n’ Jerry’s every night, then that’s probably not a good thing. One look at your sheet should help guide you to where you need to go, but a general rule is you need to take in fewer calories than you expend. Depending on the type of work you do, where you live and if you exercise these are all things that come into play. If you live in a third floor walk up, that’s a start; but if you’re a UPS ground carrier in San Francisco walking up and down the hilly streets and up and down peoples staircases and around people’s maze like offices looking for that signature fifty hours a week; well that’s something else.
